White Sox Suffer Back-to-Back Losses with 3-0 Shutout vs. Diamondbacks
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox followed up their 11-run loss on Tuesday night with a 3-0 shutout loss for an encore on Wednesday. The game belonged to the Arizona Diamondbacks from start to finish, as their pitching allowed just seven scattered hits. Chicago went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, drew no walks, and struck out 12 times.

The Diamondbacks got on the board early with three runs in the third inning. Sox starter Luis Patiño allowed the three runs on three hits before being relieved by Deivi Garcia.

Jace Peterson started the rally with a one-out single and advanced to second on Geraldo Perdomo's walk. Corbin Carroll doubled to right field and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Tommy Pham's single to left field plated him and chased Patiño. Garcia induced a double play from Christian Walker to end the inning.

Same Old Song and Dance

Diamondbacks starter Brandon Pfaadt entered the game with an ERA over six on the year but had no problem getting through the White Sox lineup. He tossed 5.2 innings and allowed just five hits while fanning eight.

The South Siders had three extra-base hits, all of which were doubles. The first two came from Eloy Jimenez in the fourth and Andrew Vaughn in the sixth. Lenyn Sosa also doubled with two outs in the ninth. Trace Thompson led off the third and fifth innings with singles. Those were the only legitimate run-scoring threats the White Sox could muster in the loss, as they were hitless with runners in scoring position.

The White Sox relief crew provided the only positive of the game. The group of Garcia, Yohan Ramirez, Tanner Banks, Garrett Crochet, and Bryan Shaw allowed just one hit and issued two free passes.

News and Notes

Newly hired assistant general manager Josh Barfield spoke with the media Wednesday to discuss his role with the White Sox.

The White Sox must win three of their final four games to avoid 100 losses.
